Since that night, the WBO light-heavyweight champion has continued to impress and last night, at the Ovation Hall at the Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, Kovalev continued to show his class.
Taking on Blake Caparello, Kovalev had to withstand an early first round scare when he was knocked down by Caparello but there appeared to be an element of foul play in the knockdown with Kovalev having his foot trodden on by his opponent as the punch was delivered.
The knockdown must have stung Kovalev into action as the second round saw the champion unload his punches big-time. Kovalev floored his opponent three times with some massive shots. After Caparello had hit the deck for the third time the referee, quite rightly, stepped in to stop the fight with one minute and forty-seven seconds of the round gone.
This latest knock-out win extends Kovalev?s record to 25-0-1 with 23 of those wins coming by knockout.
It remains to be seen what?s next for the big hitting WBO light-heavyweight champion!
