In Oberhausen, Germany, last night Wladimir Klitschko held on to his heavyweight titles with a fifth round knockout of his latest challenger Alex Leapai.
In front of a packed auditorium Klitschko dismantled his opponent before a flurry of punches forced the Samoan born fighter to the canvas twice in round five.
Before the finish, Klitschko had been toying with his shorter opponent, keeping him at range with the jab and preventing the challenger from getting any weight behind his punches.
Strangely enough, the end came after Leapai had actually half-caught Wladimir with a heavy punch, the blow seemed to force the champion up a couple of gears and the manner in which the challenger was dispatched showed the gulf in class between the two fighters.
The win extends the champions ten year winning run and after the victory Wladimir had this to say,
‘It wasn’t easy. There are no easy opponents.’
Really!
Take a look around the division Dr Steel Hammer, there are plenty of more worthy opponents than the one selected last night in a fight that was so one sided you probably had harder sparring sessions!
Klitschko in One-Sided Victory!
