News broke yesterday that one of our up and coming super-bantamweights has been given a two year ban from the ring.
Kid Galahad, who claimed the IBF Youth super-bantamweight title, last September, beating Adeilson Dos Santos, had been expected to be challenging the likes of Scott Quigg and Carl Frampton this year.
Instead, courtesy of a failed drugs test, Kid Galahad, real name Barry Awad, is now contemplating his next course of action.
His ban has come about in strange circumstances with the boxer claiming that the ban has come about after his brother spiked his drink. In fact he reckons he has a sworn statement confirming that fact with his drink supposedly spiked after a disagreement with his aforementioned brother.
Speaking about his situation, Kid Galahad has remarked,
?What can I say, other than I am totally gutted.
?This will stall my career dramatically.
?I?m absolutely devastated especially as I have not done anything wrong and have never taken a steroid in my life.
?The one thing about it which makes it even worse is that it involves a member of my family, my brother. He did it following a disagreement we had.
?I told my mum and sister and eventually my sister went to see my brother, who is in jail, and he admitted doing this.
?I don?t know anything about the drug other than you would take it to allow you to get bigger, which in my case makes no sense at all.
?I walk around Sheffield at around the lightweight limit so I have to be very disciplined and careful about what I eat and how I train because I box at super bantam.
?Bulking up does not and would not help me at all and apparently this drug would help you get bigger.
?That?s not what I want, so why would I take it??
If true it seems that Kid Galahad is something of a victim here but then again it does seem to be a muddy picture does it not!
