Last Saturday night, Amir Khan strode into the ring, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, wearing, quite probably, the most expensive pair of boxing shorts ever made.

The suggestion was that they cost a cool £20,000 to produce the majority of which covered the cost of the gold braid weaved into the waistband.

Too many it seemed a little extravagant but Amir?s inference that he wanted to make a statement topping the bill at the MGM Grand, kind of saw the Bolton lad pull this one off.

However, in the aftermath of his marvellous victory, humanity has suffered an horrific week, a week topped off by the sadistic, horrific and totally savage massacre of 132 school children, by the Taliban, at the military school in Peshawar, Pakistan.

It?s an act that is hard to comprehend and one that stunned the world.

Things will never get back to normal for those who lost their children that day and the world owes those people a duty to assist.

Therefore, it?s pleasing that Amir, who has roots in that part of the world, has donated those shorts he wore in Las Vegas to help raise money for the cause, hopefully they?ll sell for more than they cost to make and although it is only probably a drop in the ocean for what those poor folk need, it is an indication of how their plight has touched everyone around the globe.
