The announcement that Amir Khan had agreed to fight Chris Algieri in his next fight was then met with rumours that the bout was still in doubt.

However, we can now confirm that the Bolton fight will indeed be taking on the former light-welterweight champion Chris Algieri.

The fight will take place on May 29th at the Barclay Centre in New York.

For Khan it will be a return to the City where he successfully defended his old WBA lightweight title against the local favourite Paul Malinaggi, it was a fight whereby the Bolton fighter stopped the New Yorker in the 11th round.

Speaking about his impending return to New York, Khan has remarked to the media,

‘I have happy memories of New York, having made my US debut there.

‘I’m delighted to be fighting there again, against another champion.

‘Algieri has shared the ring with some tremendous fighters and shown great skills, so I know I will need to be at my very best when we meet.

‘In all my fights I bring excitement, speed and skill and can guarantee more fireworks.’

Algieri, although a weight lower than Amir, has a decent record. In 21 fights he has only been defeated once, that defeat being inflicted by the legend that is Manny Pacqiao in a fight where Algieri was on the canvas six times.

Here at Vital Boxing we expect Amir to win and keep the pressure on the winner of the bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather Junior to fight him.
