With, if Amir Khan has been quoted correctly, a super-fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr on the horizon, Khan has a difficult opponent to get past first before those dreams can be realized.

This morning, in the UK tabloid press, Amir has confirmed that negotiations are well advanced for the Bolton fighter to take on the welterweight champion Devon Alexander.

If, as we suspect, the match is made, it will be Amir?s first fight at welterweight but it also appears that the fight could be taking place in Dubai, with Amir commenting about the intended location,

?We discussed Dubai. Devon wasn?t sure at first, he suggested Vegas.?

?But negotiations are going on. We?re talking to the right people.?

It?s certainly an interesting choice of venue and will take the sport to a venue which hasn?t seen a major fight since Chris Eubank took on and beat Camilo Alarcon way back in 1997, almost sixteen years ago.

With Amir being no stranger to fighting away from home, it remains to be seen (if the fight is indeed staged in Dubai) whether Alexander acclimatizes to fighting thousands of miles away from home as well as the Bolton legend!
