Amir Khan produced an almost punch perfect display headlining at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, last night.

Fighting the highly rated Devon Alexander, and defending his WBC Silver welterweight title, the Bolton fighter took a unanimous points decision with t emerging of the points verdicts showing just how dominant Khan was.

After twelve rounds, during which Khan?s hand-speed and movement left Alexander chasing shadows, the judges scored the contest:-

? 120-108
? 119-109
? 118-110

Naturally the calls are for Khan to be awarded that dream fight against the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Junior with a happy Amir remarking after his magnificent display,

‘I really believe I’ve earned my shot against the best boxer in the world and that’s Mayweather.’

‘He is the ideal fight for me. It would be a game of chess, but I would be too skilful. I have the skill and movement to beat him. He will not be able to hurt me.?

‘I feel better now than I did when I was 25. I’m dedicated to the sport and I know there’s a few years left in me. I’m going to try and force that fight with Mayweather.’

Khan certainly seems to have approved under the tutorship of Virgil Hunter and the only time Amir looked like letting things slip was in round eight when Alexander landed a couple of hooks, however, upon returning to the corner Hunter soon had his charge back on track.

The win takes Khan to 30-3 and, eager to get across his point, Khan added about his dominant display,

‘I trained very hard for this fight.’

‘I knew I had to make a statement. It was against a tough, very skilful guy, but it was one of my best performances. ?

‘I’m the best boxer and have the quickest hands in the world. I’ve just turned 28 and I’m getting better and getting quicker, I just had to become smarter. I’ve got the best jab in the business.’

My only fear was that Khan was so slick he might have done too much to seal that Mayweather fight but it?ll certainly be interesting to see if the Kell Brook camp are so chirpy after Khan showed that, in my opinion, he is by far the best welterweight this country has.
