In Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday morning (UK time), Amir Khan produced a convincing performance to see off the challenge of Luis Collazo, in Las Vegas.

Boxing for the first time at welterweight, Khan comprehensively out-boxed his opponent flooring him three times to take a very lopsided unanimous points decision.

The victory, in Khan?s first fight for just over a year, has re-ignited calls for Khan to be a future opponent for Floyd Mayweather Junior who took a majority points decision against Marcos Maidana.

Khan, discussing just such a fight had this to say to the media following the promotion in Las Vegas,

‘Definitely, people want to see that fight between me and Floyd.?

He’s fighting guys who are strong, but styles make fights, and my style would cause Floyd a lot of trouble.’

‘He is getting older and showing a lot of mistakes that he didn’t used to do.’

‘It is a great time to catch him. ?

‘Floyd looks beatable. A lot of people want the fight now because they want a young lion to come up and they want to see him get beat. The only person who has the chance to do that is me.?

I’m very, very close to the Mayweather fight. The fight will happen because the public will demand this fight.’

However, Khan?s path to a fight with Mayweather may have to wait with Mayweather talking about giving Maidana a re-match and also with a September date being unlikely for Khan with it being so close to the religious fasting period of Ramadan.

But, in beating Collazo so convincingly, Khan has certainly made a statement.
