Whilst a lot of attention is being focussed on the promotion at the O2 Arena, in London, this weekend, one of the top British boxers will be fighting in New York looking towards a possible lucrative fight against Floyd Mayweather Junior.

Amir Khan knows he is, quite possibly, just one win away from a bout against the mega-star of boxing.

However, the Bolton heavyweight is fully aware that a slip up against Chris Algieri this weekend could see those dreams dashed.

Commenting on the danger of just such a thing happening, Khan has remarked,

‘I’ve made that mistake before, when you look past fights, but I ain’t looking past this fight.

‘There’s no point looking at Mayweather because that might never happen.’

But Khan knows his opponent, Algieri, is a decent boxer having only lost once in twenty-one fights and that being against the legend that is Manny Pacquiao.

Talking about his opponent, Amir further added,

‘The guy I’m fighting, the guy I’ve been working on, the techniques I’ve been working on is to beat Chris Algieri, not Mayweather, not Pacquiao.

‘I’ve got Chris Algieri. This is going to be a tough fight for me.’

Since suffering successive losses to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia, Khan has left the Freddie Roach camp and has fared better, in his last bout he completely out-classed Devon Alexander to take his record to thirty wins from thirty three fights.

Amir could be in for a tough fight against Agieri but if he sticks to the game-plan given to him by Virgil Hunter, we?re taking Amir to win on a points decision.
