One of the warriors of the ring has, surprisingly, announced that he is set to come out of retirement to fight again.
The 38-year-old Danish fighter Mikkel Kessler hasn?t fought for four years, his last fight being against Britain?s Carl Froch when he lost a re-match with the Nottingham fighter.
The Dane will return to the fray in the super-middleweight division looking to get into contention for a world title.
Talking about his return, Kessler has remarked to the media,
‘I want to prove that I can become the best again.
‘I’ve missed the training camps, and I’ve missed the focus you get from boxing – to have one goal, and to do your best to achieve it.’
Kessler returns to a division that has James DeGale as the IBF champion, the German Tyron Zeuge as the WBA champion and the Mexican Gilberto Ramirez as the WBO champion.
The WBC belt is currently vacant after the Swedish fighter Badou Jack relinquished it to move up to light-heavyweight.
It will be interesting to see, at the age of 38, what impact Kessler can have on the super-middleweight division, even more so when you consider that in his prime the Dane won five world titles.
Kessler Set for Ring Return.
