On 30th May, our heavyweight hope, Anthony Joshua, will be making his 13th professional appearance when he takes on the US heavyweight, Kevin Johnson, in London.

As everyone is perfectly aware, Joshua has won all his first twelve fights by knockout and has yet to hear the bell signaling the start of round four.

Many pundits are screaming for Joshua to be upped a couple of levels, stating that we?re never going to know how good he is until he climbs into the ring with a decent, possibly world-ranked, opponent.

But safety-first has to, in these early stages of his career, the way forward and Joshua?s team is well aware of that.

Indeed, it seems that Joshua is well aware of the path his career is set to take and speaking to the media is quoted as having remarked,

?I will be at world championship level in 18 months. I am still learning but I will be let off the leash and go for the world title.

?I can?t wait to test myself against guys like Deontay Wilder.?

And talking of Wilder, it seems his next opponent, Chris Arreola, didn?t stop Joshua?s last opponent until the final round in his last fight, whereas Joshua had him out of there in the second round.

Therefore, whilst on the surface it looks like a safety-first culture, it does seem that the path selected for Joshua to take is proving to be a wise and educational one.
