The public clamour for Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder to share the same ring with an undisputed world heavyweight champion emerging, could be satisfied this year.
Following Joshua?s points victory over Joseph Parker, with the Watford fighter adding the WBO belt to the IBF, IBO and WBA belts he already held, Barry Hearn has spoken to the media about negotiations for the heavyweight showdown beginning.
Barry, founder of the Matchoom empire, had this to say to the BBC Radio 5 Sportsweek programme about a showdown,
‘It is a fight Anthony Joshua really wants and I think he wants it this year.
‘Anthony Joshua wants all the belts – that is the big card Deontay Wilder has got to play but commercially, Joshua is far bigger than Deontay Wilder.
‘I think Wilder would come over here because in the world we live in, in boxing, the couple of million dollars Wilder is getting for a fight is pretty small fry in comparison to the rewards that await him for a Joshua fight.
‘I think negotiations will start next week.’
Let?s hope they can be concluded successfully and that we can have a huge showdown between the duo at Wembley Stadium, this summer.
