A short while ago, in Cardiff, the weigh-in took place for the eagerly awaited world title fight between Anthony Joshua and Carlos Takem.

The fight, which will see Joshua defend his IBF, WBA and IBO belts against the replacement opponent, is a sell-out.

At the weigh-in this afternoon, Joshua surprised those who thought he would come in lighter than when he fought Wladimir Klitschko, by weighing the heaviest he has done all his career, at 18 stone and 2 pounds, compared to the much-lighter Takem who tipped the scales at 16 stone and 11 pounds.

Talking to the media after the weigh-in, Joshua spoke about approaching this fight as if he was the challenger, remarking,

‘I know what it’s like to be a challenger.

‘Believe it or not I still have the mindset of a challenger. I don’t walk around with an ego just because I have a few belts on my shoulder.

‘I know he has that mindset to find a way to win. If you keep on knocking on the door you find a way through. I just have to boot him out because he isn’t coming through this door.

‘I’m still developing. I think that’s why people jump at the opportunity. If I trashed talked more I may be more feared. But my job is to break them down in the ring, strip them of confidence, strip them of desire and strip them of winning.’

As for Takem, given a golden opportunity to make a name for himself, the Cameroon born boxer has this to say,

‘I am ready and going to give it all.

‘This will change my life of course. Just in boxing, not the person I am.’

Takem has a big punch but if Joshua can avoid the wild wings early on there?s no reason why he can?t hold onto his crowns and continue on his journey to dominate the heavyweight division.
