The challenge was sent out recently with Tony Thompson, the veteran US heavyweight, wanting to take on our emerging heavyweight talent Anthony Joshua.

Having already beaten David Price (twice) Thompson has this weird kind of vendetta whereby he wants to defeat another Olympic medal winner.

In beating Price twice, Thompson put a huge dent in the Liverpool fighters immediate aspirations, but Joshua appears to be not apprehensive of facing the American, commenting on Twitter,

?I like the idea of boxing Tony Thompson in the near future.

?Be a great statement. I ALWAYS forward these offers across to my coach.?

Quiet when the fight might happen, if it does, is unclear.

After recovering from the injury that saw Joshua?s fight against Kevin Johnson called off, Joshua is set to make a ring return on April 4th at the Metro Arena in Newcastle.

It?s rumoured that Johnson might be his opponent but could Joshua make a statement and take on Tony Thompson instead?
