Did anybody, except perhaps himself, expect Anthony Joshua to do such a job on an opponent who had mixed with the best and had never been stopped?
The second round demolition Joshua did on Kevin ?Kingpin? Johnson will reverberate around the heavyweight world.
If anyone doubted, after those first twelve fights produced twelve quick wins, that Joshua was the real deal, those doubts are surely eradicated now.
Joshua is now on the road to superstardom and the big fights will surely becoming his way now.
After the fight, Joshua had this to say about the demolition of a fighter that tried, verbally, to get under his skin but who was destroyed in less than six minutes,
‘I am here to try to make statements. My coach drills me in the gym and the hard work pays off.
‘The ‘L’ plates will come off when I face tougher opponents.
‘It shows I have the power but there were times when I was on the inside that I could have been more explosive. So far so good, but in the back of my mind I know it’s going to get tougher.’
But although Joshua was delighted by his win he also found time to think about two fighters in his stable who weren?t so fortunate at the O2 Arena last night, further adding,
?I want to dedicate that to my stable-mates Kevin Mitchell and John Ryder – they’ve had tough nights tonight.?
Anthony Joshua, destined for the very top but still a gentleman.
Joshua on Stopping Johnson!
