Last night, at the 02 Arena, Anthony Joshua won the Commonwealth heavyweight title.
The big heavyweight hope, now with a record that reads 14-0, stopped the previously unbeaten Scottish heavyweight Gary Cornish with a devastating ninety-four second demolition job.
Cornish, who entered the ring with a record that read 21-0 and who had never been beaten during his amateur days, was supposed to provide Joshua with his biggest test yet.
But, cheered on by a partisan English support, Cornish hit the deck when caught with a short-right hand and although the taller Scotsman did well to beat the count, he was soon on the receiving end of a barrage of punches culminating with a fierce left that saw the referee, Victor Loughlin, step in to halt the fight.
The win keeps Joshua on course for a December 12th showdown with his fierce rival Dilian Whyte.
After the emphatic win, the quickest of his career, Joshua had this to say to the media,
?I didn?t rush anything and managed to catch him with a couple of shots that were painful. He was throwing heavy jabs and I managed to slip him on the outside.
?That?s what you?ve got to do.
?But credit to Gary where credit is due. He?s a big man and had a solid jab. It?s a 12 round fight and I wasn?t trying to dish it all out in round one, but I managed to find shots to get the job done.
?I?m slowly fulfilling the prophecy I made in 2013.?
Joshua hardly broke into a sweat in beating Cornish and if I were Dillan Whyte I?d be a little worried.
