Topping the bill at the Hydro Arena, in Glasgow last night, was Josh Taylor.
Taylor, returning to the very same venue in which he struck Commonwealth gold four years ago, was facing Winston Campos in a defence of his WBC silver super-lightweight title.
Faced with a change of opponent, after Humberto Soto withdrew after picking up an injury in training, Taylor extended his professional record to 12-0 with 11 wins coming by knockout, with an emphatic win against Campos.
Taylor, surely heading towards a world title challenge, stopped his man in the third round of a one-sided fight.
The first-round saw Taylor set the pace, catching Campos with several punches before putting his opponent on the canvas towards the end of the round.
With the partisan crowd cheering their man on, Taylor continued to deliver the better work in round two, putting his opponent on the canvas on a further two occasions.
The third round saw the end of the fight arrive, after just forty-four seconds, with Campos hitting the canvas once again and the referee deciding enough was enough and calling a halt to proceedings.
After the bout, Taylor had this to say to the media,
‘I was surprised at how sharp I was, but I found my rhythm, my pace and my range early on and I sussed him.
‘I’m improving and learning every day, and I know I’m knocking on the door of becoming a world champion.’
Campos arrived in the UK with a respectable record having won 30 of his 38 fights but he was no match for Taylor who seems destined for great things.
