During the week we focussed on the rising heavyweight star of the southern hemisphere Joseph Parker.

We questioned whether Parker, who is an unbeaten and highly talented fighter would need to move to the northern hemisphere to gate-crash what is currently a vibrant heavyweight scene.

Last night, at the Faleata Sports Complex in Apai, Samoa, Joseph Parker had the eighteenth fight of his professional career.

Parker was matched against the America fighter, Jason Bergman.

Bergman, who didn’t look to be in the best shape, was clearly no match for Parker and was caught time and time again with body punches delivered with dangerous intent.

Parker had Bergman down in the second and seventh rounds before finishing the fight in the eighth round with a third knockdown.

The win takes Parker’s record to 18-0 with 16 wins coming by way of knockout but we need to see him matched with someone with more ambition and desire than Bergman to see whether he could be the real deal.
