In his first fight as a light-heavyweight, Badou Jack took the WBA world title off of Nathan Cleverly.
Jack, whose last fight was against another British fighter, James DeGale, stopped Cleverly in five rounds with the Welsh fighter announcing his retirement from the ring later that evening.
In beating Cleverly, Jack moved his professional record to 22-1-3 with 13 of his wins coming by stoppage.
As the new WBA light-heavyweight champion, Jack is scheduled to make a mandatory defence against the impressive Dmitry Bivol who has a record that reads 11-0 with 9 wins coming by knockout.
But in the immediate aftermath of the win over Cleverly, Bivol was far from the thoughts of the Swedish fighter.
Instead, Jack called out another reigning world champion in Adonis Stevenson, who has a record that reads 29-1 with 24 wins coming by knockout.
Talking about facing Stevenson, Jack remarked,
?I want Adonis Stevenson, let?s get it on.
?Unless he wants a trilogy with Andrzej Fonfara. You can?t leave it in the hands of the judges. You?ve got to go for the kill.
?I think world champion Adonis Stevenson is next. Let?s fight somebody real. I?d go anywhere.?
We could question whether Jack is ducking Bivol feeling that he has a better chance of unifying titles as opposed to keeping the one he recently won?
I?ll leave you to ponder over that thought.
