Whilst all the verbals were being exchanged after Kell Brook had beaten Jo Jo Dan, about a huge domestic clash between Brook and Khan, at Wembley, the Bolton fighter was resolute that the June 13th date would not happen.

In fact Amir Khan insisted that he had agreed with whom his next fight would be and wasn?t going to renege on his word.

Many suspected that Khan had verbally agreed to fight Adrien Broner, however it turns out they were wide of the mark with it being announced that Khan?s next fight will be against Chris Algieri.

Algieri is a former light-welterweight champion and the bout will take place on May 30th, with New York stated as being the possible destination.

Announcing the fight on, of all places, his wife?s YouTube channel, Khan remarked,

‘You can class him as an A-class opponent.

‘This is another fight which is going to bring a different style.

‘He knows how to box, he knows how to move well. He takes a decent amount of shots and he’s got a decent amount of power.

‘Hopefully this can lead me onto the bigger fights in the future, which we’re all looking at.’

Algieri is a classy operative with a record that reads 20-1 with that sole loss being on points to the legend that is Manny Pacquiao.

A win for Khan could very well get him the fight he craves against the winner of the Floyd Mayweather Junior v Manny Pacquiao mega-fight.
