Last night, in Chicago, Illinois, George Groves would have been taking particular interest in the WBC super-middleweight bout between Anthony Dirrell and Badou Jack.
As the mandatory challenger for the WBC super-middleweight title, Groves will be fighting the winner of the aforementioned bout. Many pundits suspected the Hammersmith fighter would be fighting Dirrell.
However, in Chicago last night Dirrell put in a lethargic performance and lost his WBC title, by a majority decision to Jack.
After twelve rounds Jack took the verdict by the following scores on the judge?s cards,
? 114-114
? 116-112
? 115-113
The fight started well for Dirrell with the champion taking the first four rounds, but Jack had, probably, the better of the remaining rounds although the action was a bordering on the illegal at times.
Jack was, in my opinion, allowed to get away with far too money rabbit punches in the clinches and his rough-house tactics saw him hurl the champion to the canvas at one point.
Talking about what was, for many, his surprise triumph, Jack had this to say,
?Anthony Dirrell is a hell of a fighter. I told him that I?m not scared of his barking.?
We now wait to see where and when Badou Jack and George Groves will meet. As for Dirrell, it?s back to the drawing board.
It?s Jack for Groves
