Yesterday afternoon it was announced that Nathan Cleverly would be facing Andrzej Fonfara for a version of the world title.

At the moment no official date is set for the fight although October is being bandied about as the possible month.

Cleverly will be taking on an opponent who, in his last bout beat Julio Cesar Chavez Junior and who has a record that reads 27-3 with 16 of those wins coming by knockout.

Fonfara, of Polish descent, is based in Chicago and will prove a difficult opponent for the Welshman who now has a record that reads 29-2 with 15 wins coming by way of knockout.

It had been thought that Cleverly, who has returned to light-heavyweight after losing to Tony Bellew whilst campaigning at cruiserweight, would be fighting for the WBA version of the crown held by the German Juergen Braehmer, with it even being suggested at one-stage that the fight had been provisionally agreed.

However, explaining the change in direction, Eddie Hearn remarked,

‘We have had lots of big fight offers come in from Nathan over the past few months and we have taken our time to choose the right one.?

Can Cleverly beat Fonfara?

It?s a tough task but he does have a chance if he sticks to a game-plan and does what he does best.
