Kell Brook will make the third defence of the IBF world welterweight title he won against Shawn Porter on October 24th.
As the fight scene once again starts to gain momentum here in the United Kingdom, after a quiet(ish) summer, Brook will be taking on the Argentine fighter, Diego Chaves at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield.
Chaves, a rugged Argentine who has a record of 23 wins from 26 professional fights, has already started the war of words with the champion and detailed exactly how he feels he can take the IBF crown off of Brook, remarking,
‘Brook’s not a fast fighter. He is easily bothered by body punches, and that is one of our strengths.
‘We’re going to test his punching power too, because the opponents he chose have not been such great punchers as the ones I have faced lately.’
Whereas Brook has remarked about his opponent,
‘Chaves is a rough, tough, durable fighter who is dangerous.
‘I’ve seen some of Chaves’s quotes and it’s interesting to see he thinks he can over-run me.
‘Fighters don’t realise how big I am and how sharp and accurate I punch. I’m looking to make a major statement against him.’
It promises to be an interesting night as Brook tries to continue to make waves in the welterweight division.
