It was always going to take a miracle for the British public to vote and make Tyson Fury the 2015 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Despite winning several versions of the world heavyweight title in ending the decade long reign of the Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko, the voting public became embroiled in a petition that saw several hundred thousand keen to prevent Tyson being on the shortlist for the award, for remarks the boxer had made.

Therefore, it was probably a result for the Gypsy King to finish fourth in the ballot and it?s something he should be proud of, even more so considering the BBC abandoned coverage of the professional version of the sport several moons ago.

But, at the ceremony, held in Belfast, Tyson did take to the stage, albeit accompanied by some pathetic booing from some members of the audience, to talk to Gary Lineker about his great achievement.

It was during this chat that Tyson apologised for his remarks, commenting,

?I?ve said a lot of stuff in the past none of it is with the intention of hurting anyone. It?s all a bit tongue in cheek and its fun and games for me.

?I?m not really a serious type of person. If I have said anything in the past that has hurt anybody, I apologise.?

As for who won, it was Andy Murray, the darling of the stiff upper lip chinless wonders the BBC provides far more tennis coverage the working man can take.

And they call it a level playing field, hardly!
