It seems to be par for the course that the closer you get to a world title tilt the longer you have to wait.

Over in the USA, after becoming the mandatory challenger for the WBC version of the belt, by demolishing all 32 opponents put in front of him, Deontay Wilder appears to have waited an age to see if he can demolish the current WBC champion Bermane Stiverne.

But, having seen three purse bid deadlines cancelled, we?re hearing that the fight between the two will take place on 17thJanuary at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It would appear that Stiverne has been backed into a corner after it was decreed he?d face his mandatory challenger before the end of the first quarter of 2015.

Although Stiverne could be considered the home-fighter, I?m of the opinion that Wilder will have the backing of the Las Vegas crowd as they look for a charismatic champion to pick up the chalice as the American Heavyweight champion of the world.

Furthermore, the prospect could be opening up with regards, if Wilder blasts Stiverne out, of a fight with the holder of all the other belts, Wladimir Klitschko, talking about claiming all the heavyweight belts out there before calling it a day.

If that fight were to come off, it?d be the mother of all heavyweight fights would it not and Wilder could become the biggest thing in heavyweight boxing since a certain Mike Tyson.

It?s not too much to ask for is it?
