According to news breaking, the route to the IBF heavyweight world title, currently held by the American Charles Martin, could be set to open up for Anthony Joshua.
Apparently, the IBF are set to offer the unbeaten Watford fighter, who has 15 knockouts from his fifteen fights, the chance to fight an official IBF world title eliminator against the #6 contender Carlos Takam, who has a record that reads 33-2-1 with 25 wins coming by knockout.
Joshua is ranked #5 by the IBF at the moment and could take the chance to gate-crash the world heavyweight scene in big style. Talking about the potential bout, the IBF championships chairman, Lindsay E Tucker is quoted as having remarked,
?Teper and Takam are the next two, but if there is a problem with either one, we would go to Joshua.
?If Teper is out, yes, it will be Takam and Joshua. They will be fighting for the No 1 position, which is the mandatory challenge.’
But is Joshua ready for such heady heights just yet or will Eddie Hearn continue to guide Joshua down the steady route he has taken so far with perhaps Dereck Chisora next on the list of opponents.
What’s your view, is Joshua ready for the big time or should he be held back for a bit longer?
