An intriguing question as the huge contest between Kell Brook and Gennady Golovkin fast approaches.
Having decided to go up two weights to face the fighter many acknowledge as the best pound-for-pound in the world at the O2 Arena this Saturday, Kell Brook knows that he has to have a game-plan if he is to keep his 100 per cent record and rip those belts from Golovkin?s waist.
Ahead of the bout Brook has been speaking to the media and it would appear that the Sheffield fighter is looking to do to Golovkin what Sugar Ray Leonard did to Marvellous Marvin Hagler.
Brook intends to use the fear factor to ensure that he is focussed at all times and doesn?t go the way of the majority of Golovkin?s previous opponents in a record that reads 35-0.
Speaking to the BBC and remarking about how he wants to emulate Sugar Ray Leonard, Brook has commented,
‘I want to do what Leonard did with Hagler – use my speed, my footwork and box the perfect fight.
‘I do fear him. Of course I do. I know he’s a big puncher and that nobody wants to fight him for a reason.
‘But the fear is positive because it’s going to make me super-sharp with cat-like reactions.
‘You could see the fear in Leonard’s eyes when he was in with Hagler – that’s why he was so sharp and zoomed in.’
It?s an interesting comparison, Leonard came out of retirement to take on Hagler and win, but will Brook be able to execute his plan or will Golovkin just keep cutting the ring size down, stalk Brook and unload those barrages of punches?
Saturday is fast coming, we?ll have all the answers then, but I can?t wait.
Is Fear the Key to Success?
