Although, through beating Brandon Gonzales, James DeGale earned a shot at the IFB super-middleweight title, against Carl Froch, it remains in doubt as to whether Froch will actually oblige him.
This afternoon, words from the Froch camp infer that the IBF and WBA champion feels DeGale should earn his stripes before he agrees to fancy him.
But, the matter could be taken out of Froch?s hands with the IBF keen to see DeGale rewarded for his endeavor.
In fact the mandatory defence has to be made by next February with the IBF championship chairman, Lindsey E Tucker, remarking to the boxing media,
?Carl can expect a letter from us shortly.?
?He has nine months to fight. He will have to fight, vacate his position or have it taken from him.?
Well, at least he can?t say he hasn?t been warned.
