With the news having broken, overnight, that Amir Khan had signed up to fight Chris Algieri in his next fight, it appears that in doing so he turned down an IBF mandatory challenger decider.
The IBF, it would seem, wanted Khan to take on Tim Bradley with the winner then getting a shot at the IBF crown held by Kell Brook.
Khan?s feelings on a Brook fight have been well documented since the Sheffield fighter stopped Jo Jo Dan last weekend.
Having declined the opportunity to fight Bradley, the suggestion from across the pond is that the IBF will now try to match Bradley with another British fighter, in the shape of Frankie Gavin.
But it would be amazing if this bout were to happen.
Whilst Gavin is working towards a world title shot, he doesn?t need to face a warrior like Bradley because Gavin knows that being managed by Eddie Hearn, he will have, when the time is ripe, direct access to Kell Brook.
Perhaps the ideal answer would be to make Bradley the #1 contender and match him with Brook later this summer, thereby cutting out all the niff, naff and trivial.
It makes sense does it not?
