Last night, at the Copper Box Arena in London, Hughie Fury, cousin of Tyson, was back in action.
Hughie, who has desires of gate-crashing the world heavyweight scene, was matched against Fred Kassi, a fighter described as a high-level journeyman by some.
The fight was for the vacant WBO international heavyweight title, with the winner being in the queue to fight for the WBO title.
Unfortunately the fight wasn?t what might have been expected, with it being short on excitement. After a clash of heads, in the 7th round, the referee Terry O?Connor asked the ringside doctor to view the cut above Hughie?s left eye, caused by the clash of heads.
The ringside doctor decided the cut was too bad to continue and the far from entertaining fight went to the scorecards.
After the usual delay the result was given as:-
? 69 ? 66
? 70 ? 64
? 69 ? 65
And all in favour of Hughie Fury.
The win takes Hughie?s record to 20-0 with 110 wins coming by way of knockout, whilst Kassi sees his record slip to 18-4-1 also with 10 wins coming by knockout.
Ahead of the fight Hughie had declared he was ready to challenge the new IBF heavyweight king, Anthony Joshua, but on the evidence of last night I know who my money would be on if they were to meet.
