On May 6th Hughie Fury was hoping to be the second of the Fury clan to become a world heavyweight title holder.

The 22-year-old, cousin of Tyson Fury, had a bout lined up to fight for the WBO version of the title, a belt currently held by the Kiwi fighter, Joseph Parker.

The fight was scheduled to take place, on May 6th, in Auckland, New Zealand.

Unfortunately, the fight has now been postponed.

It appears that Hughie has picked up an injury which requires 3-4 weeks rest, thereby ruling out the contest.

A statement, issued by Team Fury and Hennessey Sports relating to their boxer, reads,

‘Understandably, Hughie is devastated by the injury which has temporarily halted his dream of fighting for the world heavyweight title – but the fight will be rescheduled and a new date will be announced shortly.’

However, it does seem as if Joseph Parker will still be making a defence of his title on May 6th with Parker?s promoters, Duco Events, suggesting work had started to find a replacement.

We wait with baited breath.
