At the Ponds Forge Arena, in Sheffield, the unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury racked up another win.

Taking on Danny Hughes in an eight round encounter, Fury took the verdict 79-74 in a fight that was far from enthralling. Fury, with a record of 14-0 struggled to keep Hughes at bay and looked to be struggling against the bigger punching opponent which was surprising considering Hughes had only three knockouts to his name in his career.

For the first half of the fight the action was messy, neither fighter seemed willing to take a risk with Fury?s jab being the prominent punch. Hughes only appeared willing to unleash any heavy blows when Fury charged forward towards him.

In the later rounds, most notably the 7th and 8th, Hughes caught Fury with some solid shots which had the unbeaten fighter wincing and covering up.

It appears Fury got the verdict for the quantity of punches thrown as opposed to the quality but, on the evidence of last night, if Fury is to fulfill his boast about becoming the youngest ever heavyweight champion of the world, then there will need to be some drastic and very quick improvements to his technique and power!

Personally, on the evidence of last night, although he?s still young in years, I doubt whether Hughie Fury will be a British champion by the time Mike Tyson held the world title!
