Across the pond a chance to make history didn?t quite come off.

In an Antonio, the Ukrainian fighter Vasyl Lomachenko was attempting to make history by becoming a world champion in only his second professional fight.

Having won gold at both the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics, the 26 year-old was trying to claim the WBO featherweight title against the Mexican Orlando Salido

However, the plan didn?t quite come to fruition with the Ukrainian on the wrong end of a split decision.

But, in a strange quirk of fate, the WBO featherweight title was declared vacant as if was revealed that the champion, Salido, had failed to make the weight, although, interestingly, before the fight started the champion had already declared this would be his last fight as a featherweight.
