The big news that filtered through this afternoon related to the newly-crowned WBA heavyweight champion Lucas Browne.

It seems that the Australian who won the title by stopping Ruslan Chagaev, in the tenth round, in Russia, has failed a drugs test.

His management company have revealed that the 36-year-old boxer delivered a positive sample for the banned substance clenbuterol after the recent fight.

Browne is devastated about the failed drugs test and has offered the following protestation,

‘I would like to assure all fans, the whole of the boxing world and all of Australia that I am not a drug user or a drug cheat.?

It remains to be seen what action the WBA decides to take but we?d suggest Browne will be stripped of his title with the title being declared vacant, although we suspect Ruslan Chagaev will be given the first option when it comes to fighting for the belt.
