The challenger gets ready to take on the champion.
When, sometime around 10:45pm, Anthony Joshua climbs between the ropes ready to await the IBF champion of the world, Prince Charles Martin, the 26-year-old from Watford, Hertfordshire, will be hoping to tread in the footsteps of five other British heavyweights.
Joshua, if he wins, will become the 6th British world heavyweight champion in only his 16th professional fight.
In his previous 15 professional fights the popular fighter has stopped all his opponents, last time out a superb upper-cut put Dillian Whyte on the canvas in what was deemed to be a grudge fight.
On Saturday night, there was the suspicion that Joshua might play it a bit cagey, box Martin at a safe distance and see what the unbeaten American has to offer.
However, listening to Joshua at the last press-conference ahead of the big fight, it would appear that Joshua is set to go looking for the American and won?t be afraid to take some punishment in order to land his own, with Joshua remarking,
‘I’ll probably go out and try to take his head off. I’m a fighter, I’m not going to dance around and evade punches.
‘I’m going to walk through two punches to give him five. When it comes to us big, heavy-hitters we don’t play games. We’re here to go to war.’
Let?s hope they?re not words based on bravado and that Joshua can take the heavy blows Martin will unload before landing those of his own.
Heavy Hitters Don?t Play Games!
