There?s so much more to come!
Sat watching the action, in the middle of the night, I must have woken everybody up in our street with my almighty yell after Kell Brook took the majority verdict over Shawn Porter.
It was the climax of a ten year quest by the Sheffield fighter and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, was naturally delighted at seeing his man emerge victorious, especially across the pond.
Talking to the media after Brook?s triumph, Hearn had this to say,
I had him winning the fight comfortably,?
?It wasn?t pretty, but I thought he boxed perfectly using the game plan. He kept at the distance, tied him up on the inside and I had him winning by 5 or 6 points. But you think ?Please, please, don?t do this to us.? Parris comes out with 114-114, and I?m thinking ?Oh man.? People talk about traveling to America; If you?re good enough, you?ll win, and when you do, it?ll change your life.?
I must admit that when the first score, that of Dave Parris was read out and the UK judge had given it as a draw I was a little fearful of how the two American judges might have scored the fight. However justice prevailed.
As for a next opponent, or indeed opponents down the line, Hearn added,
?Juan Manuel Marquez, Amir Khan, Floyd Mayweather Jr ? that?s all they?re talking about in interviews.?
?You?ve got to dream big. Don?t just sit on your [backside] and box in an arena in your backyard. You have to believe you can come over here and take the belt. Dream big. He?s quality. He?s a different class. He schooled Porter in my opinion. It was almost like Andre Ward in tying him up on the inside and boxing. It was like perfect, and there?s so much more.?
Indeed there is, these are exciting times for the welterweight in this country with Amir Khan waiting in the wings!
Hearn on his New World Champion!
