Making his return to the ring after an absence of some three and a half years, David Haye made light work of his opponent stopping him in the first round.

Mark de Mori, with a record that had seen him beaten only once in thirty three fights, was supposed to provide Haye with some stiff opposition in his first comeback fight.

But Haye simply walked through anything De Mori had to offer. The first jabs thrown by Haye seemed to worry De Mori and when Haye threw a huge overhand right De Mori was out before he hit the canvas.

For Haye, who last fought back in July 2012 when he beat Dereck Chisora, it was vindication that he has put the injuries, particularly the shoulder one, behind him and that he now can home on in a possible world title fight.

Talking about his successful comeback, Haye had this to say,

‘It’s been a tough road but I’m finally back.

‘I felt so cool and calm in there. I don’t believe any heavyweight out there could have taken those punches.

‘The shoulder feels better than it was before. I feel this new and improved version of me will go on and win heavyweight championships.’

From the evidence we saw last night, Haye certainly looks to be as good as ever, but the 16,000 in attendance at the O2 Arena, in London, might need convincing a little further after seeing how totally inept De Mori was.
