Another British fighter has been given a chance to achieve glory on the world-stage.
Yesterday it was announced that the Bristol fighter, Lee Haskins, has been granted an opportunity to fight for the IBF bantamweight crown.
Thirty-two year-old Haskins will be travelling to the US to take on the current IBF title holder Randy Caballero.
However, whilst the fight has been confirmed, there is no confirmation of a date or venue yet.
The title holder, Caballero, has been out of the ring since October 2014 due to an injury, however the twenty-five year-old is uneaten in his 22 fights.
Talking about being given this chance, Haskins has remarked,
‘I’m looking forward to the challenge of boxing in America.
‘I know this is a fight I can win. British fighters like James DeGale, Kell Brook and Amir Khan have proved that you can beat top American fighters stateside and I look forward to adding myself to that exclusive list.’
In his last outing, Haskins beat the Japanese fighter, Ryosuke Iwassa, to claim the interim belt, it was a fight many expected Haskins to lose, but the win has given Haskins the belief that he can be the first to defeat Caballero with Haskins further remarking,
‘After my last performance over Iwasa, who a lot of people said would beat me, I think the sky’s the limit.
‘Caballero is coming off an injury and 12 months of inactivity, against me that is a big mistake.
‘Now I just want to have that date and venue finalised so I can focus 100% on beating Caballero.’
Once we have a date and venue we?ll report further.
