I was fortunate enough, once, to see Muhammad Ali in the flesh.

I wasn?t fortunate enough to see Ali fight though, my acquaintance with the great one came back in the 1980?s when Frank Bruno took on Tim Witherspoon at Wembley Stadium.

Sat on one of the many grass banks that surrounded the stadium, whiling away time until the gates opened, I became aware of a plethora of people heading my way with some rather muscular looking men clearing a path ahead of them.

Getting to my feet and stretching every sinew in my body, I could see this group heading in my direction. Slowly but surely my eyes focussed on the legend that is Muhammad Ali shuffling towards the old Wembley Stadium.

Ali had an aura about him, everybody clapped as he passed but nobody dared to breach the ring of security around him. Once he?d gone the air was filled with chit0chat, boxing punters almost disbelieving what they had seen.

Today, dogged by ill-health, Ali is very rarely seen in public, but today THE GREATEST is 72 years of age and here at Vital Boxing we?d like to wish Ali all the best.
