The first ever world title fight, between two fighters from the North East, a fight that had been eagerly looked forward to for so long, ended disappointingly in Newcastle last night.

The clash between Stuart Hall and Martin Ward was stopped in the second round and declared a technical draw.

The end came after the two fighters, accidentally, banged heads, in the first round and although the round was completed it was deemed, in the second round, that the fight could not go on with Ward sustaining a bad cut over his right eye.

The result means that Hall remains the IBF world bantamweight champion and afterwards the challenger had this to say about the unfortunate ending to the fight,

‘Stuart came with a right hand and as he rolled around he caught me.’

The saddest thing is the fans didn’t get to see the fight but it happens in boxing. Neither of us proved what we wanted to.’

Hopefully a re-match will be ordered soon.
