At the MGM Grand Hotel, in Las Vegas, George Groves struggled to hide his disappointment after a third bid for a super-middleweight world title belt ended in failure.
The fact that Groves, who saw his record slip to 21-2 with 16 knockouts, lost on a split decision only served to emphasise just how Groves has been unlucky in his quest to become a world champion.
In his first attempt, he?ll be remembered as being the boxer who landed a blow right on the button to send Carl Froch crashing to the canvas, only to be stopped, controversially later on in the fight.
The second attempt, in front of 80,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium, saw Groves caught with a peach of a punch thrown by Froch that would have taken any super-middleweight out.
Groves knows that it could be a long road back to get a fourth attempt and the Hammersmith boxer isn?t rushing a decision about his future.
In fact, Groves has remarked that his intentions are to sit down with his family and mull things over, or as Groves put it to Sky Sports,
?I?m now going to spend some time with my family and decide upon my future.
A wise move methinks.
