After beating Chris Eubank Jnr in the World Boxing Super Series semi-final, there were doubts expressed as to whether George Groves would be fit enough to box in the final.

Having dislocated his shoulder, in the final round against Eubank Jnr, doubts that the Hammersmith fighter would have recovered from the dislocation suggested that those behind the event might be forced to seek a replacement.

With the final set for early June, with Callum Smith having also secured a place in the final, it appears that Groves will seek a one-month extension to the tournament final after under-going minor surgery on his shoulder yesterday.

Groves, using his social network site, is quoted as having remarked, yesterday,

?This morning I go in for a minor operation on my injured shoulder.

?The good news is I?ll be fit to fight for the final in July. We will be applying for a one-month extension and are hopeful of securing this.?

Common sense suggests that this is the way forward, otherwise the whole tournament will descend into a farcical ending whereby a late replacement will be called upon to face Callum Smith.

If Groves does get a negative response from the organisers, with regards to the one-month extension, it is being suggested that Chris Eubank Jnr or James DeGale could take his place in the final.

One lost his semi-final, conclusively, whilst the other is coming off a defeat that saw him lose his world title, like we said earlier, it could be a farcical situation!
