At the Wembley Arena last night, George Groves got back to winning ways.

After two consecutive losses, in world title fights, to Carl Froch, Groves moved closer to a world title fight against the WBC champion Anthony Dirrell, whilst also claiming the European super-middleweight title, with a convincing win over the Frenchman Christophe Rebrasse.

Groves, who took the verdict on all three judges score-cards, produced a polished display to show that he can still be a major player at world level.

The win was based on a fast start that saw Groves claim all of the early rounds. The Hammersmith boxer alternated his work between the body and the head and his jab was proving troublesome for the Frenchman all night.

As the ace, in the middle and later rounds inevitably slowed, Groves was forced to take some shots but the Londoner fought back well. Rebrasse had never been stopped before and although Groves tried to force the stoppage the Frenchman withstood anything Groves could throw.

The punch statistics showed that Groves had thrown 953 punches landing just 17% on the scoring areas whilst Rebrasse had thrown 615 connecting with 17%.

With the bell going for the twelfth round and ending what had been a hugely entertaining bout, the judges gave the result to Groves by the following margins:-

? 118-110
? 118-110
? 117-111

Next up for George, hopefully before the end of the year, will be a WBC world title fight.
