When Kell Brook moved up to middleweight, to take on Gennady Golovkin, many believed the IBF / IBO / WBA / WBC world middleweight title holder would be facing Chris Eubank Jnr.
But the proposed bout never happened with contract negotiations scuttling the fight.
However, the suggestion is doing the rounds that a fight between Golovkin and Eubank Jnr could still be in the pipeline.
Golovkin is set to defend his titles, on March 18th, against Daniel ?Miracle Man? Jacobs, at the legendary venue of Madison Square Garden, whilst Eubank Jnr is preparing to fight for the IBO version of the super-middleweight title, against the rugged Renold Quinlan.
But whilst no official talks have been held, Tom Loeffler, Golovkin?s promoter is quoted as having remarked to Sky Sports,
?No new negotiations are in progress with Eubank Jr.
?Although we would be open to that fight, as we were last September when Eddie Hearn made the offer.?
If the fight were to be made, second time around, it remains to be seen whether Golovkin would be tempted to move up to super middleweight or whether Eubank Jnr would be required to drop back down to middleweight.
It is an intriguing proposition though.
