The 10th September is a date boxing fans have well and truly highlighted in their diary.

It is the day we get to see the fighter that is deemed the best pound-for-pound fighter on this planet display his skills in London.

Gennady Golovkin, the holder of the IBF, WBA, WBC and IBO middleweight belts will be putting them on the line against Kell Brook, the IBF welterweight champion who has chosen to move up two weights to take on the fighter from Kazakhstan.

Today, at the press conference held to publicise the fight in London, Golovkin gave his thoughts on finding that it would be Kell Brook in the opposite corner on September 10th, commenting to the assembled journalists,

‘It was a big surprise.

‘I know and respect Kell and he’s a great champion – a true champion.

‘For him to come into the middleweight division is a big present for me, and a big present for everyone. It’s the biggest test for me and a bit different – different speed.

‘The first time I looked at him I thought ‘147kg? No, he’s my size’.’

Intriguing don?t you think?
