Over in Carson City, California last night, Gennady Golovkin showed that, to my mind, he is the best middleweight out there.

In front of 9,323 fans at the StubHub Centre, Golovkin once again demonstrated his extraordinary fighting skills by stopping Marco Antonio Rubio in the second round.

Rubio was supposed to provide Golovkin with a stern test and although the weigh-in farce, where Rubio couldn?t get down to the 160 pound weight limit, denied the contest world title status, Golovkin showed that the result wasn?t ever going to be affected.

The end last night came in the second round, 1 minute 19 seconds to be precise when Golovkin caught Rubio with a huge right uppercut followed by a left hook to the head that left Rubio on the canvas.

Clearly stunned, Rubio tried to get up but with the count having reached nine the referee, Jack Reiss, called things to a halt.

Golovkin?s record now read 31-0 with 28 by way of knockout whilst Rubio slips to 59-7-1.

Next up for Golovkin could be a unification fight, with the fighter indicating he wants t get in the ring with Miguel Cotto next which would see Golovkin trying to add the WBC belt to his WBA belt.

If the match can be made, it?ll be an intriguing one.
