At thirty-five years of age, time is most definitely not on Leon McKenzie?s side.

Having taken up professional boxing so late in life,Leon needs to capitalize on the fine start he made to his career, by stopping John Mason inside two rounds at the York Hall on Saturday.

Hopefully the fights will come with regularity as Leon seeks to make an impact in the sport but it?s fair to say that Leon will need to come up against better opposition than Mason, who?d lost his last five.

Trained by his uncle, the three time world champion Duke, it would appear that the intention is to get as many fights in in as short a time space as possible with Duke commenting to the media,

‘We need to build Leon into an attraction. ?

‘His career will be very short-lived so we have to get a move on and try and get as many fights as we can together and see where it takes us.’

?There will be somebody out there who thinks ‘I fancy Leon McKenzie. I’ll take that fight’ and hopefully we’ll get one in the next couple of months.’

Indeed there will, thanks to the family name, Leon is a target and somebody someone will want to get a share of in the ring, the big challenge remains finding the right calibre of opponents otherwise Leon?s career could be in danger of getting dogged down amongst the journeymen so keen to enter the ring at every opportunity.

  • If the McKenzie clan are serious about Leon, every four weeks has to be the limit!

  • Southern Area title at best is my prediction, he’s left it too late!

  • you just never know in this sport of ours but he’ll have to progress quick
