One of the defining images of my early days of following boxing was the awful sight of a stricken Michael Watson being taken to hospital following his epic clash with Chris Eubank.
The injuries Watson suffered that night changed the boxers? life forever but also changed the manner in which boxing shows are managed medically now.
Michael Watson?s fight to get his life back to some degree of normality impressed everybody. The Islington fighter has worked relentless with those associated with disabled sport and received the MBE for his work.
However, it seems that Michael and his carer were subjected to an horrific attack last Thursday when two assailants attempted a robbery whilst Michael and his carer were in their car. The robbery resulted in both being hospitalised in the incident on The Ridgeway, Chingford.
The Metropolitan Police, reporting the incident and requesting witnesses, issued a statement that read,
?Police confirmed they had received reports of an attempted robbery on The Ridgeway, Chingford at around 4.53pm on Thursday.
Two men, aged in their 50s, informed officers that they had been sprayed in the face with a suspected noxious substance by two suspects who attempted to steal the car.
The male suspects fled the scene in a different vehicle.
The victims were assessed at the scene by the London Ambulance Service before being taken to an east London hospital for further treatment; their injuries are not life-threatening.
Anyone with information should contact officers at Waltham Forest via 101.?
Here at Vital Boxing we wish Michael and his carer a speedy recovery and hope that the scumbags responsible are caught and subsequently dealt with.
