After three defeats? ahead of the twenty-seventh fight of his career, the talented Frankie Gavin knew that nothing less than a win would suffice last night.

Matched against the journeyman Renald Garrido, the former world title challenger didn?t have things all his own way.

Gavin took the decision on points with the result being given as 77-75 but, if Gavin harbours serious ambitions of getting back to the level where a world title fight might be forthcoming, he?ll need to improve on the display he gave last night.

The decision takes Gavin?s record to 24-3 with 14 wins coming by way of knockout whilst Garrido sees his record slip to 18-15-1 with a mere 3 wins coming by way of knockout.

As for Gavin?s next step, it has to be up in class but will that lack of punch power displayed last night limit his progress?
