Tonight, at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, Sam Eggington and Frankie Gavin face each other in the ring.

The fight should have seen the winner move towards a world title by claiming the WBC International belt.

However, that belt will not now be on the line, for Gavin, after some controversy regarding the weigh-in yesterday.

By all accounts, Gavin has fallen foul of some directives from the British Boxing Board of Control.

The BBBoC had previously instructed Gavin that he wouldn?t be allowed to take the fight if he came to the scales at the 147lns welterweight limit. Gavin was told that for the fight to be sanctioned he must weigh in at 149.5lbs of above.

The directive came about because Gavin weighed in too heavy in the two check-weights leading up to the fight and with the BBBoC reluctant to see Gavin dehydrate too much to make their stipulated weight.

As it turned out, Gavin weighed 153lbs yesterday morning, a weight he stated was his usual weight at that stage of his fight preparations.

Come the actual weigh-in, Gavin weighed 149.7lbs whilst Eggington weighed in at 146.3lbs.

Although weight issues have seen Gavin unable to claim the WBC international belt, Eggington can still claim it.

Confused?

I certainly am but then again I?m a mere mortal.
